Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Egypt, the seven-time African Cup of Nations champions, 1-0 on Tuesday evening.
Senior Man Kelz scored on his AFCON debut with a stunning strike to lead the Nigerian team to victory over the Egyptian Pharaohs.
The Super Eagles took the lead at halftime against a sloppy and lacklustre Egypt thanks to a Kelechi Ihenacho goal in the 30th minute.
Nigeria produced their greatest performance in #AFCON2021 so far in the first half against Egypt, who improved late in the game but were unable to break down the Super Eagles defence.
The Egyptians had gone undefeated in their last 16 games, but they have now lost for the second time since 2014.
Nigeria’s Eagles, on the other hand, have risen to the top of the table following their historic victory.
“Our plan was to cut Mo Salah off and we did. Every team in Afcon should be respected, our team should be respected and we’ll approach every game with all seriousness.” – Augustine Eguavoen
